1.1.This Standard covers Electric vehicle charging equipment with vehicle-to-grid function, bidirectional power transfer that could be installed in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code Part I(CE Code Part I, C22.1) and the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70; and intended to assist in the management of the power flow from plug-in electric vehicle back to the grid in an effective and efficient manner.

 

1.2 This standard will address electrical safety, interoperability of electric vehicle charging equipment with V2G function for a better grid support and communication between electric vehicles and grid.

 

Raison d’être du projet

This proposed new standard is being developed at the request of electrical industry to cover vehicle-to-grid technology intended to provide bidirectional power flow, and allow the electric cars battery to become a storage unit. It will provide the industry with consistent manufacturing and safety performance of use of vehicle-to-grid technology. This will meet the strategic needs of the following key interests: industry, regulators, consumers and government. a) Industry stakeholders will benefit from the use of the latest technology features and manufacturing practices b) It will address needs of regulators by providing suitable safety requirements thereby avoiding the need for government requirements; and c) Consumers will have assurance that latest safety features are available and that the products have an acceptable level of quality and performance d) Supporting certification bodies
