This Standard applies to photovoltaic connectors:
a) single pole, rated maximum 2000 V dc
b) multi-pole, rated maximum 2000 V ac or dc

This Standard applies to photovoltaic connectors intended for use in solar photovoltaic systems in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, using stranded copper conductors, for use in either indoor or outdoor nonhazardous locations.
Note: Photovoltaic connectors are intended to be installed with cables meeting the requirements of C22.2 No. 271 or equivalent, suitable for the purpose.

This Standard also applies to panel mounted connectors, splitter connectors, and similar wiring devices intended for use in photovoltaic systems.

This Standard does not apply to
a) appliance plugs covered in CSA C22.2 No. 57
b) attachment plugs, receptacles, and similar wiring devices intended for use in hazardous locations covered in CSA C22.2 No. 159
c) general use receptacles, attachment plugs, and similar wiring devices covered in CSA C22.2 No. 42
d) industrial type, special use attachment plugs, receptacles, equipment power inlets and outlets, and connectors covered in CSA C22.2 No. 182.1
e) industrial locking type attachment plugs, receptacles, and connectors covered in CSA C22.2 No. 182.2
f) special use connectors covered in CSA C22.2 No. 182.3

In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
