1.1 This Standard covers asphalt roofing shingles composed of saturated organic felt or impregnated glass felt, coated on both sides with asphaltic material and surfaced on the weather side with mineral granules. This Standard is designed for the evaluation of products as they are manufactured.
1.2 The shingles covered by this Standard may be (a) of single or multi-tab design; and (b) single or multi-layer.
1.3 In cases where certain requirements or methods in other Standards conflict with the requirements or methods in this Standard, the conditions or changes that are included here take precedence.
1.4 In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express possibility or capability.
Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material.
