Note: The scope for this NOI was updated by the responsible SDO on April 20, 2021. (originally published on April 16, 2020)

1.1  This Standard provides the physical property requirements and test methods to determine the material properties for High density closed cell spray-applied rigid polyurethane foam, used for thermal insulation or for other purposes in building and non-building applications in both site-built construction and prefabrication (manufacturing) facilities.

1.2  The spray polyurethane foam system supplier does not produce the High density closed cell spray-applied rigid polyurethane foam material for which this standard specifies performance requirements. The spray polyurethane foam system supplier produce a liquid resin component which when combined with the specific corresponding polymeric isocyanate on a fixed ratio basis (normally one to one) during installation, subsequently produces the material for which this standard specifies performance requirements. The standard CAN/ULC-S715.2 includes mandatory requirements for the installation of the material as well as the qualification of contractors and the qualification of installers. The procedures described in CAN/ULC-S715.2 form an integral part of the manufacturing process for the finished product. When the product is produced on site, the installation process outlined in CAN/ULC-S715.2 is required to ensure that the material is able to meet the requirements of this Standard.

1.3  The test methods listed in this Standard are used to determine the values for the physical properties. These physical property values are intended for use in specifications, product evaluations and quality control. They are not intended to predict end-use product performance under all conditions.

1.4  The High density closed cell spray-applied rigid polyurethane foam shall not be used when the continuous service temperature of the substrate is outside the range of -60 ºC to + 80 ºC.

1.5  The testing and evaluation of a material against the Standard may require the use of materials and/or equipment that could be hazardous. This document does not purport to address all the safety aspects associated with its use. Anyone using this Standard has the responsibility to consult the appropriate authorities and to establish appropriate health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements prior to its use.

Raison d’être du projet

Raison d’être du projet
There is no standard now to address this type of product as thermal insulation which can be referenced in future editions of the National Building Code of Canada, Part 9, Housing and Small Buildings and possibly Part 5, Environmental Separation. It is intended that this standard will be used as reference by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre or other listing/certification agencies.
